Fluconazole is an antifungal medication used to treat certain types of fungal infections, including yeast infections. It belongs to a class of drugs known as hemeoxygenase inhibitors.

Fluconazole works by interfering with the body’s ability to produce ergosterol, an essential heme oxygenase, which helps eliminate fungi and other yeasts from the body. While many fungal infections are treated with fluconazole, it is most commonly prescribed for candida infections.

The best way to determine the appropriate dosage of fluconazole is by a medical consultation with a healthcare provider. Depending on the severity of the infection, a healthcare provider may recommend topical or oral treatment. Oral fluconazole is available in the following strengths: 5 mg, 7.5 mg, 10 mg, and 20 mg tablets.
